Guideline (Beginner,Concept) Do not use a Dependency Link between two actors without showing the Dependum.

This stable version of the Guideline Wiki Page displays the guideline as per the i* Style of the University of Toronto. Registered users can use 'Open Version' link right at the end of the guideline statement below to access the open version of this page

Discussion: The Dependency Link should contain a Dependum. Extending the Dependency Link from the Depender to the Dependee without showing the Dependum does not relay correct or complete information about the strategic dependency relationship.

For in-progress or unfinished models, the modeler might face a situation where the type and/or the naming of a Dependum has not been finalized. In this situation, using the non-conventional, direct link without a Dependum notation or a nameless Dependum might be temporarily acceptable, but with a corresponding comment in the Legend. The conventional Dependency Link, however, needs to be drawn properly by the time the model is finished. The reason behind taking such precaution is to avoid any confusion, misunderstanding, or misinterpretation by the other users of the model.
